          Comments about Schneiders Tail Extensions:

We needed an inexpensive tail for a horse that we will only be showing on a limited basis and at mostly smaller shows. So for the money, this did the trick. Even though adverstised as smaller, lighter, it added plenty of fullness and length without looking too fake. More tail would have actually been too much. We did have to make the loop on the end smaller to make it easier to secure - electrical or duct tape worked fine.

Can you apply extension to a horse that has lost some of her tail? It happened a couple of months ago and the remainder has regrowth? And any advice on how?

              A:

Yes you can use a tail extension with a horse that has lost some of it's tail. I would say to try it at home first just to make sure the horse is comfortable with the tail weight pulling down on her tail bone.

          Instructions

          1. Measure approximately 3" up from the bottom of your horse’s tail bone. Part your horse’s tail hair and pull the upper hairs out of the way; secure with bands or clips.
          2. Position the tail extension on the lower third of the tail bone.
          3. The bottom of the extension should not pass the bottom of the horse’s fetlock.
          4. Optional: place a rubber band around the tail extension head. This can be used for extra security later on.
          5. Braid a ½” diameter section of hair in the center of the tail just beneath the tailbone and braid down about 4”-8”. Secure with a rubber band.
          6. Determine desired tail height and string the extension top hair strands through the braided section of tail and tie the strands together snugly. Lay the ends of the laces against the extension top. To better secure the extension, apply electrical tape around the top, or pull the band that was earlier placed around the top, over the bands to keep them down.
          7. Arrange natural tail hair around the tail extension.
          8. The bottom of the tail extension should fall at the bottom of the horse’s fetlock. Test by backing the horse SLOWLY. If the horse comes close to stepping on the extension…STOP! Check to be sure the top of the extension is as close to the tailbone as possible. If the extension is still too long, the tail needs to be trimmed to the proper length to ensure the horse does not step on the end and pull the braid from the tailbone.
*Under AQHA rules and regulations, tails may be lengthened by hair to hair attachment only, with no attachments of any kind to the tailbone. Check your breed or show association rules regarding the use of a tail extension.
          Tail Care:
All tails are 100% natural horse hair and should be shampooed and conditioned regularly. Blow dry or towel dry and fluff when completely dry to give a full look and add body. Storing in a padded case keeps tail in ready to show condition.
