Ultra® Bit Cleaner and Freshener

$13.99
The Ported Barrel D Ring is a great bit for intermediate and finished horses. The barrel puts downward pressure on the tongue yet still offers relief when the horse bends at the poll. Hooks allow you to position the bridle and reins at the best position and keep them stabliled in that position. (Please see your individual breed's rules and regulations regarding bits with hooks.)

Comments about FES Ported Barrel D Ring Bit:

This bit is definitely worth the money and works great on my horse. I just wish it had a separate piece to hook the chain, like the Myler brand has. Overall, very good buy.

Comments about FES Ported Barrel D Ring Bit:

This is a great bit. It has attachments for your reins and curb chain so you can get good contact, but the hinged mouth piece and tongue relief make it a gentler bit. I use this on my gelding who hates the brake in a snaffle bit and needs a medium bit without shanks. Was so happy when I found this bit so I could try this style without the huge price tag. Highly recommended

Comments about FES Ported Barrel D Ring Bit:

one side of the bit swivles easier than the other side. other than that it's a decent bit and not too pricy. good if you want to test it out with out paying a high price. The pony doesn't love it but he's okay wit it, he's very picky about his bits and this is the only one he'll tolerate other than his kimberwick which he loves.

Silly question, but I've heard that some people use a curb chain with this type of bit, but do you have to? My gelding goes well in a kimberwicke, but I'm looking for something that doesn't need a curb chain but still has a similar mouth. He does not go well in a traditional broken snaffle and really dislikes a French link too. Thank you! ( I'm wanting a more "traditional" look for the Arabian hunter ring).

              A:

A curb chain can be used with this bit. It would be connected to the keepers at the bottom that the reins would slide into to aide the curb affect.

          Stainless Steel

Bits are most commonly made of stainless steel. Stainless steel can be cleaned and polished repeatedly without damaging the finish. It is strong, durable, and flavorless and does not impact salivation. Some stainless steel mouths are inlaid with copper.

          Copper

Copper encourages salivation to increase the sensitivity of the horse’s mouth. It warms up quicker than stainless steel in cold weather.

          Sweet Iron

Sweet iron is cold-rolled steel. The material appears rusty after repeated use. This oxidation tastes sweet to the horse and increases salivation.

          Rubber

Rubber softens the action of the bit as it is softer than traditional metals. Rubber-covered bits are generally thicker than metal.

          Aluminum

Aluminum is lightweight and easy to maintain.

          Plastic

Plastic bits are softer than traditional metal bits and they are durable. Many plastic bits are scented or flavored.

          Nickel Silver

Nickel silver is a nickel alloy, also known as German silver. It encourages salivation for a more sensitive and supple mouth.
