    Description:
    Mineral and Vitamin Needs
Minerals and vitamins are required for equine digestion and utilization of forages and feeds and for most metabolic processes.

Soils become depleted of certain minerals over time and unless treated on a regular basis putting these minerals back in the resuls are a lower nutirent content in forages and feeds.
Average alfalfa and grass hay and feeds provide ledd than the minimum required amonts of major minerals, trace minerals and vitamins.

Vitamins and minerals interact with each other in the body.  For example, if more phosphorous than calcium is fed in the total ration the excess phosphorous can interfere with calcium absorption, possibly resulting in a calcium deficiancy.  It is very important to provide these nutrients in the correct proportions.  Grostrong® Minerals are especially formulated to provide each mineral and vitamin in the correct proportions to best complement forages and feeds

Comments about MoorMan's Grostrong Quad Block 25 lbs:

I have fed oats as my grain of choice for years. I love the digestibility and fiber it has. What I didn't realize was that oats are high in Phosphorous and horses can't utilize the Calcium from the oats as the need so they take it from their own bones.
The Grostrong minerals are a complete vitamin and mineral supplement, they balance the Calcium to Phosphorous ratio so my horses now are able to digest the calcium in the oat and not take it from their bones. The Quad block is great because I can break it up into 4 section. Put one section in each feed tub and they can have it free choice. This is a great product.

I feed oats as my grain because I love the digestibility and fiber it has. What I didn't realize was that even thought oats are high in Calcium horses can't utilized it because of the Phosphorous imbalance in oats. Meaning horses on all oats don't get the calcium requirement they need for strong bone health. The Grostrong minerals are a complete mineral supplement and they balance the Calcium to Phosphorous ration so my horses now able to digest the calcium in the oat and not take it from their bones. The Quad block is great because I can break it up into 4 section. Put one section in each feed tub and they can have it free choice. this is a great product.

Comments about MoorMan's Grostrong Quad Block 25 lbs:

It's terrific that Schneider's is carrying this product now.

I used Mooremans' Grostrong pasture quadblock for 2 years in Alaska where the only available local hay & pasture(brome) was high in phosphorous. I wanted a high-calcium 2:1 Ca++/PO4 ratio free choice mineral that wasn't granular, since I boarded my horses several miles away and wasn't comfortable trusting granular minerals to the persons feeding--since there were 20 horses at the facility and treating each horse differently makes for a lot of work for the feeders. I also didn't want a lot of filler and didn't see the need for any if I could find a free choice mineral supplement.

I also didn't want to buy a whole block for each of my 2 horses.

The quadblock was great--I was able to split the block and put in in my 2 horses' stalls (they were stalled nights and when it was colder than -40F) and there was no waste. My 3 y/o gelding went through a 1/4 quadblock in about a month for the first 2 months, then about every 6-8 weeks. Our adult mare went through a 1/4 block in 8-12 weeks.

The horses seemed to find the block palatable, and preferred it to the salt block provided by the boarding facility.

I did have to special order from the local feed store, as at that time Schneider's did not carry this product. Took 2 months to get the order straight and intervention from the ADM Alliance (Mooreman) representative, who was very helpful in checking as to what could be shipped where and by whom -- each state apparently independently regulating feed stuffs to varying degrees.

Now that I'm back in the lower 48 I'll probably just bundle a quadblock order now & then with other stuff I order from Schneider's.
