LOVE MY BIG FELLA

By LucyDoudlah

from Evansville Wisconsin

Verified Buyer

Pros

  • Durable
  • Good Fit
  • Stays in Place
  • Waterproof and Breathable

Cons

  • Wish it had a belly band

Best Uses

  • Cold Weather
  • When horses are out in wet snow and rain

Comments about StormShield® 1680D Big Fella Turnout - X-Midweight:

I have a Friesian Gypsy and he is one of those horses that is not the biggest and surely bigger than a Warm Blood Quarter horse. I have had Asa since yearling. He has gone through a blanket each year. Just because he is growing that much. This blanket fit great. I love that it is not just made bigger everywhere to accommodate X-amount of inches. But that there is room in the shoulders and across his chest. It is hard when you always have those cross breeds that are too big for this but not big enough for that.... He is quite big around as well as 17 hands high and only 3 years old. The only thing I wish was that it had the belly band that hooks up on his side. But the fit.....PERFECT. The bag for storing could be bigger. Folding it to fit will be like folding a fitted sheet to look like it does when you first purchase it. ha. But honestly, most don't even give you a bag. Thanks for the thought! I only use my blanket for sub zero weather since he is a woolly mammoth. And if I think that I will be gone all day and it will be a wet snow or freezing rain. Don't ever want horse-icicles. Will send picture of Asa in his blanket next Wisconsin Snow and Cold

Comments about StormShield® 1680D Big Fella Turnout - X-Midweight:

This is the only blanket that my TB/Clyde can wear without ripping the seams at the chest. It's not that he is big through his shoulders or chest...but his neck base is large and this is the only style blanket that allows him the needed freedom to move.

Comments about StormShield® 1680D Big Fella Turnout - X-Midweight:

I bought this blanket for my 18hh Belgian boy, Tank. (He is built like a Tank) He measures 90 so I got the 88 because they said the Big Fella blankets came with a couple extra inches and I am glad I did! He is always toasty warm. It looks like it was custom made. It never slips to one side even after rolling and running around the field. If he ever tears this one up (which I doubt he will anytime soon) I will definitely buy anoth Big Fella blanket for my Big handsome Fells

Fits my Percheron well!

Comments about StormShield® 1680D Big Fella Turnout Sheet:

This turnout sheet fits my 1800# Percheron mare well. The drop is long enough for good coverage and the way the neck is cut works for her. She is very broad as she is a full draft, so her muscled shoulders and wide chest need the space that this sheet gives her. I previously used a Hug-style turnout, which worked fine, but didn't have the length on the sides that this one has. This sheet would probably be too wide for lighter draft crosses, but might work for large warmbloods if they have well -developed shoulders and large chests/barrels.

    • Changing Weather

    Comments about StormShield® 1680D Big Fella Turnout - X-Midweight:

The horse that wears the BigFella is a tall warmblood with a deep neck. The blanket is a little short from neck to tail although I measured him carefully, but it gives him some relief from the neck and chest irritation that regular sized blankets give him. Schneiders sizing has changed over the past few years and lately it has been very difficult to find the right fit for this horse.

How to Measure for a Horse Blanket:

How to Measure for a Horse Blanket
    • For best fit, stand horse squarely.
    • Measure from center of chest to edge of tail.
    • Take care to measure along the widest part of the shoulder and hindquarters.
    • The blanket measurement result is the blanket size.
    • If your measurement is in between sizes, round up to the next blanket size. Example: 73" = Size 74.
