Loop Attachment Tail Extension Instructions:

1. This type of extension may be placed on the lower third of the tailbone. Separate the hair of the horse’s natural tail about two thirds down the bone, using a clip to hold the top section up and out of the way. Hold the tail extension up to the natural tail and place so that the bottom of the fake tail hangs at the fetlock.

2. Divide a portion of hair about as thick as your finger into three sections for braiding. Feed the loop onto one of the strands, up against the tail bone, and begin braiding tightly, keeping your braid behind the extension and exerting downward pressure so that it lies flat. Tie off the braid and use electrical tape to secure it to the top piece of the fake tail.

3. Unclip the top section of hair and brush out your tail. Be sure that the extension does not hang too long. The bottom of the tail extension should fall at about the horse's fetlock. Test by backing the horse SLOWLY. If the horse comes close to stepping on the extension, STOP! Check that the top of the extension is as close to the tailbone as possible. If so, and it is still too long, then the tail needs to be trimmed to the proper length. If the tail extension is ripped out from the horse backing onto it, it could result in the braid ripping from the tail bone. If your horse's real tail is longer than the extension, trim the real hairs to the same length.
