Comments about Nikwak Nikwax Synthetic Rug Proof:

Used this in conjunction with the Nikwax Rug Wash. Together they did a great job of restoring our horses' rain sheets. Waterproofing is important here in the Pacific Northwest!

Helps to maintain waterproofing

Comments about Nikwak Nikwax Synthetic Rug Proof:

This is my second bottle since I thought the product had worked well previously. I do the waterproofing by using a sponge (rather than a machine) and I was able to use less liquid than given on the instructions for a 72" blanket. Previously, I had the problem that some white spots were generated when areas dried out too quickly but they eventually wore off so no permanent problems.

A must for rewaterproofing

By deb

Comments about Nikwak Nikwax Synthetic Rug Proof:

This product works better, in my opinion, than the spray on type. I have used both and I much prefer the completely submergible product. Soaking in a tub, or running it through the wash, it gets much more complete and even coverage. I have waterproofed my horse's same blanket 3 winters in a row. The blanket finally fell apart from sun rot, but my pony stayed dry. I Highly recommend.

  • Q:

Can this be sprayed on a wet blanket

      A:

The rug proof needs to be worked into the fabric and into the seams. I don't think it will be as effective if sprayed on.

    • A:

The instructions say either soak and rinse, or apply to clean rug with a sponge. I suspect that if you sprayed it on, it would result in a lot of wastage and an uneven application. Try the sponge method if you are hand washing. Also, in my experience, it doesn't take well unless you use the nikwax rug wash to wash it with first. I used another brand once and it didn't work out.

I don't think it's designed to be sprayed on but you can dilute in a bucket
and sponge it on, or in a bigger bucket and dunk the blanket in it.
