    Woof Wear Medical Hoof Boot

    Item # 38304
This close fitting medical hoof boot can be used in the stall or for turnout to keep wounds clean and hoof dressings intact, especially when dealing with abscesses, punctures or bruises. The medical boot has a durable Kevlar interior, rugged grooved sole and an asymmetrical zipper to enhance a snug fit. This boot is designed to fit tight so measuring the width carefully is imperative to ordering the correct size to maximize the benefits of the boot. If undecided on size, it not recommended to go the next larger size.  It is also recommended to use with bell boots or overreach boots to prevent damage if horse's should step on the boots.

    Features include:

    • Keeps wounds clean and hoof dressings intact
    • Close fitting for a snug fit to keep the boot from falling off
    • Recommended for use with bell boots or overreach boots
    • For use on horses in the stall or during turnout
    • Grooved sole optimizes traction
    • Kevlar interior is durable and can be used on horses with shoes or without
    • Asymmetric zipper for easy on/off and gives the boot a snug fit
    • Machine washable, durable and reusable
    • Sizes:  1-8 (do not go to next size up, Woof Wear size chart is in metric due to the snug fit of the medical boot, when converted to inches it loses the distinction between sizes)
    • Sold individually

Comments about Woof Wear Medical Hoof Boot:

My 21 year old mare has ringbone and her RF has a weak hoof wall. I'm trying to keep her wall from wearing and these boots are ideal. I've tried all the others out there and there is no comparison to these boots. They don't irritate her ringbone and that is so important. I can't say enough about these well made boots.

Would this work overtop of a poultice pad for an abscess? I'm thinking if you put the poultice pad, then held it in place with vet wrap and the boot on top? Would this be sufficient for turnout to keep the poultice in place, or would the classic duct tape bootie work better if turned out, where it might be wet etc?

I haven't used mine for turn out yet. That being said, I certainly would.

It should work. These are pretty tough boots. The manufacturer does recommend using them with bell boots or overreach boots as well.

Yes it would. You would probably need only one time around with the duct tape or vet wrap too. Just enough to hold the poultice. The boot fits snuggly. Adding a bell boot over top would lessen the risk of it getting pulled off too.

This boot works WAY better than the duct tape bootie and I consider myself
VERY good at making duct tape bootie!!! I LOVE this boot for abscess and
poultices! You really don't even need much vet wrap at all to keep a pad
in place. Time and supplies saver!!!

It should work over a poultice and Vetwrap. I've never tried it for that purpose. My Arabian mare has a tendency to wear her soles and I use them for sole protection. There is some movement in the boot even though the boot is neoprene and higher than most boots with a wonderful zipper. But if the hoof has a light wrap the boot probably won't shift. The boots are very nice and durable with a water repellent sole and I think good for turnout if your horse isn't too frisky :)

Are these "Woof medical boots" interchangeable with the hind hoof too?

Yes, you can put the boot on the front hoof or the hind hoof. You would need two different sizes depending on your horses front hoof or hind hoof sizing.

I'm not sure if they're interchangeable but I don't see why not. The material is very stretchy and conforming.

Yup! They work great on hind feet as well! Just be sure to measure
carefully so you get the right size.

I used these boots for about two weeks consistently. I would not recommend them for extended use. I was rewrapping my mares foot with medicated pads and alcohol with a vet wrap bandage every 3 days. . I then slipped the boots on. She developed "scratches" in the second week. A complication I did not want or need. They fit well and were great for hand walking but I would remove them for the stall rest. The tried and true method of duct or gorilla tape on the sole after vet wrap is a good alternative. Not as tidy as the boot but certainly fewer side effects.

No they are not. If the horse is in a stall dry they will work fine. If they are exposed to any kind of moisture it will hold it in. Notice that they advise you use bell boots with it.
