My horse would spread his hay all over the stall. He is much less wasteful and he has easy access to the hay with this hay bag

Nice bag but I expected it to hold more. It is all I can do to get 14lbs of hay in it. It could be a little heavier material too.

I love this hay bag, the openings are large enough that my horse wants to eat hay, I had purchased a slow feed hay bag previously and my horse wouldn't even try to eat thru the tiny openings...this one is just right!

I have similar square hay bags with the rods in the top edges, and I prefer this style, but the edges of the rods always end up poking through the poly material in a very short time. The rods slide partially out and become a safety hazard. Does the material in this bag have heavier reinforcement around the top, especially at the ends, to help keep this from happening?

There are no rods in these hay bags. The top edge reinforcements feel like heavy, flat pieces of flexible plastic. I have never had one come through the material, and my horse is a very vigorous eater.

This bag does not have rods in it to support the top. It's an open top.
It has one strap, as shown in the image that runs long ways on the bag,
can be unsnapped at one end, and has a swivel hook to hang with. It also
has another thinner strap that crosses the width of the bag to help
contain the top - the images on the bag don't show this strap, don't
know why. It is also unsnappable on one end.
When I hang mine up, I criss-cross the two straps by running the smaller
one through the hole in the center snap of the larger strap, and across
to the other side. I have 3 of these bags, and I absolutely love them!
I went through several other similar bags before, but this one is by far
the best! It's easy to load, holds the right amount of hay, hangs
easily, and has been the most durable (by far) of the previous bags I've
tried. All 3 of my bags are still in great shape, with no rips, tears,
or fraying damage, after 3 months of use.

Hi Karen, The top of this bag is reinforced and not a problem at all. This hay bag is very easy to use! It's very durable as I rinsed all hay in the summer in these bags and they are still in good shape this January. I actually have two "dunkers" who like to dunk their hay in the water bucket, which leaves the hay bags very wet and sometimes the bottom is frozen after eating. I would recommend this bag to anyone!

This hay bag doesn't have rods or anything that can stick out. There is a clip and a strap to attach it to a stall and then another clip and small strap to keep it closed. It is relatively easy to fill up, much easier than a hay net but not as easy as just tossing the hay in the stall. It holds a lot and is very sturdy. My big draft likes to play with it. Some of the hay does fall out but not very much. It slows him down his eating by a lot. I have no worries about him getting choked on anything or any hardware sticking out that could hurt him. I like it a lot and recommend it.

This is the best slow feeder hay bag that I have used. It has lasted three to four times as long as the two other brands that I have used. I also purchased the Dura-Tech StableHand that is a real time saver….
This is how I “choose" to use the bag:
I do not hang this hay bag, like the pictures suggest. I use two carabiners (large snap clips) on each end of the rings on the top sides of the bag where the hanger is attached...and I clip them directly into the two large I-hooks that I installed on the walls, spaced the same distance apart as the rings and clips…at a comfortable height for the horses to eat. It is more stable and less wear and tear on the bags and the hanger strap. Also, I clip the hanger strap with the snap, through the center side ring along with the cross strap, carefully placing the cross strap over the TOP of the hanger strap….This secures everything, so it does not move if they eat down inside the top of the bag. This helps to stabilize the top of the bag, so it doesn’t stretch out… I hope this was helpful.
I do recommend this Dura-Tech Slow Feed Hay Bag. Diane

How effective is this bag for holding peanut hay without much waste? I have a Dura-Tech Waste Not Hay Saver Plus Feed Bag and love it because the feed bag catches the hay waste and the horses can still eat it. Went to order another one of those and see that they are no longer available! I also have the regular Dura-Tech Waste Not Hay Saver bag and it works great for other types of hay, but there is a lot of waste with peanut hay. I use the peanut in the trailer when hauling as a nice treat for my horses. They love it! Thank you for any advice.
