Comments about Insta Hot® Portable Washing System with Cart:

Loved it for the first season. We stored it over winter as recommended, we drained the unit. First use this season, the water line split and it leaked. Of course, it is out of warranty. We were able to fix the split and make it useful again. The metal tubing was very thin in the bend area and was a weak spot to begin with.

Hot Water is a Must for Baths

Comments about Insta Hot® Equine Portable Washing System:

This portable hot water unit works great for us to give horses baths. My gelding definately does not like cold water and will put up a fuss. Got this heater and he just stands there for a bath. Makes me feel better that he is happy. The cons are that on a windy day the heater needs to be out of the wind because the pilot light will go out. Also make sure that you follow the directions for draining the unit before freezing weather. A must for the barn if you don't have hot water.

        • Q:

I bought one of these about 3 years ago, and have always drained it and stored it in my barn ( can get below freezing). this year, tried to use it, and it was leaking Everywhere!! opened it up and there were multiple failure sites in the piping. I'm pretty sure I drained it the last time I used it. has this been happening to others? could there be a pressure problem from my water source? thanks !

            A:

Usually a split in the coils means that there was water left in the coils. When the water freezes it expanded and split the coils. The coils splitting from freezing damage is not covered under the warranty. Rapid fix which we suggest to fix the coils. You can purchase it at any local hardware store and it will fix the split coils. If you have any other questions please fee free to contact customer service at service@sstack.com.

How is the best way to drain the unit to prevent from freezing? Just replaced my original one due to broken pipes from freezing. Trying to avoid that mistake again

            A:

Storing this unit in an above freezing temperatures if possible is the best way to avoid any damage. If it has to remain in frigid temperatures, make sure the drain valve is open, this is the ribbed cylindrical stem next to the water input valve. You will also need to unhook the out-going water line to make sure the water is drained from the heat exchange unit.

        • Q:

Can this unit be used to fill or top off horse water buckets in winter to keep them from freezing. We have a six horse barn. Water buckets are about six gallons each. Can it supply enough hot water each day?

          • Staff Reviewer

            A:

This will supply heat as long as the propane tank is filled and water as long as the supply is constant. This can be used to fill or top off water buckets, but depending on how cold it is will determine whether they freeze hours after the hot water has been used.

        • Q:

Can I hook up a regular hose instead of the curly one? I have a friend who has one of these and the water pressure is terrible. I have really tall horses and don't want to fight with having to pull on a curly hose. Been there done that with the curly hose. Thanks

          • Staff Reviewer

            A:

You can hook up another hose. However, the larger diameter hose will decrease the pressure more. The Powermax will give you more pressure than the original Insta-Hot if a larger hose is desired.

Can you attach different nozzles or is the one supplied the only option?

          • Staff Reviewer

            A:

Any nozzle can be attached. However, the nozzles that have several spray options are not the best option because every time you switch a setting, you cut the water off so it shuts the unit down for a split second.
