My go-to for Rainrot, mudfever, and other skin ickies

By FoksPhur

from Hellertown, PA

Verified Buyer

Pros

  • Leave-in formula
  • No bad scent

Cons

  • Oily residue

Best Uses

  • Treating Rain rot

Comments about Muckitch Muck-Itch:

I've been using MuckItch for several years now to treat rainrot on my horses. While the formulation is oily and leaves a residue, I don't find this particularly bothersome even when using it in the saddle pad area. Most of it absorbs and dries overnight and I've never had an issue of it staining saddle pads. It's super easy to use and the ability to leave it in makes it ideal for long-term treatments or situations where you just can't get to the horse every day. While perhaps not as immediately effective as MTG, it doesn't STINK like MTG and I am perfectly OK with this. I've also used this with good results on mud fever, sweet-itch, scratches, and other skin fungus type things.

        • if you have a fungus problem

        Comments about Muckitch Muck-Itch:

Horse was at Trainers and came down with a extreme case of "Girth Itch" (girth, neck, shoulders, barrel, ft legs and hip) they were treating the group of horses for a week and I brought my Girl home and within a week of treatment she was cleared up. Product states to spray, rub in and wipe off later. Since she was not being saddled I did the first two step and not the latter and she would get a little grimmy. But she did not have the hair loss that a lot of the other horses treated differently did.

              Comments about Muckitch Muck-Itch:

Finally a product that works! I have tried numerous antifungal topicals, shampoos, antifungal powders, betadine, bleach and chlorohex type products even expensive Rx meds, on a horse with very thin, fungus prone skin. For the FIRST time in 7 years I don't have a wound under his belly/umbilicus/girth at all!! During a rainy season or blanketed, my horse has a potential to lose his entire hide due to rain rot. In the recent southern monsoon, he would've been stall-bound for days on end. Instead I have applied it proactively (even in the pouring rain) and this product has really saved my horses health. It's fast -one application usually halts the falling hair and scabbing. Cons: Hard to find (except Schneider's) seemingly expensive (actually WELL WORTH IT)and a little messy/oily but who cares -IT WORKS!
