Comments about Fly Free Zone Collar:

The collar fit well and stayed on with no problems. However, the fly-repelling quality dropped significantly after about 10 days of use. I continued to use it with added applications of my own fly spray.

Comments about Fly Free Zone Collar:

The collars were easy to put on. There's enough velcro so that the collar fits a range of horse sizes (fits my Percheron cross) and stays on. Best of all, the flies stayed away from eyes and ears so that the horses could graze comfortably. Easier to use than a fly mask. I'll buy this again next year AND buy the leg bands.

Comments about Fly Free Zone Collar:

I ordered these collars to help ward off the VSV that hit Colorado this year. These collars have a strong citronella odor. The velcro is heavy duty. They have now stayed on almost a month even though the horses are out in a pasture. The citronella is no longer noticeable. They have taken a beating on the barb wire and yet they still remain on. They have helped keep the flies and mosquitoes away. I would definitely buy again. Probably will have to buy one for every season.

Is there a break away to this collar? If they got it caught on something or another horse was trying to take it off would it "break away" preventing an injury to the horse?

                • A:

As evidenced by product specifications on the following website, as well as personal customer experience reviews, this product is not indicated as a, "break away collar." Although based on other customer reviews, the manufacturer recommends that you consult with a veterinarian if you have any concerns. This product connects via a Velcro connection, which in some instances is cited as being easier to, "break away."

I have a five month old colt and am wondering if the fly free zone collar and/or fly free zone leg bands are appropriate to use on him? I also have three grown mares and wonder if I could use both the collar and the leg bands together on them to protect from flies this summer?

                  A:

We always recommend checking with your veterinarian when using products on young horses. You can use both the collar and leg bands together on your adult horses.
