We do not recommend oiling the Dare® Cribbing Control Collar, especially the throat piece, which might soften the leather corners and diminish the effectiveness of anti-cribbing block. If you feel you must oil to soften the leather, oil only the crown strap. The collar should be kept clean using a good quality saddle soap or a leather cleaner.

Comments about Schutz Brothers Inc The Dare Cribbing Collar:

I have used the same Dare cribbing collar on my mare 24/7 for four years. When the stitching gave out, I purchased a new one. The new one was returned because it dot not fit into her throat well and we could not get it to fit her without a big gap between her and the brick. The old one is going to the cobbler to be restitched.

Comments about Schutz Brothers Inc The Dare Cribbing Collar:

Like the one strap Dare approach instead of Miracle collar used previously on my
horse and resulting in less rubbing and hair loss. When it comes to cribbing collars it seem there is no "magic" brand fix. More of a trial and loss, until you (hopefully) find some alleviation of symptoms.

I would not put any cribbing collar on a horse that was perpetually out with no monitoring. My horse was in a paddock but monitored daily and ridden four times a week

        Does the job

        By Cody

Comments about Schutz Brothers Inc The Dare Cribbing Collar:

While I don't like having to use a cribbing collar on my horse it is necessary to help save his teeth and our barn. This collar doesn't have to be tightened as much as some other collars. Does not stay tight when head is down grazing, which is nice. He accepts quite easily and as soon as I put it on he stops trying to crib and eats his hay or goes out to graze. We do not leave it on all the time since I have concerns about it getting caught on something when we are not home. All in all it does what I wanted it to do.

        • Q:

Please explain how the cribbing collar works and prevents the horse from cribbing? Does the collar stop cribbing or stripping of trees?

Horse is sorrel color, 16.2+ H, and loves to chew on trees-oak bark, strips bark off maple trees, etc. What colors are available?

          Any suggestions are appreciated!

          Thank you.

            A:

The collar stops cribbing (windsucking) this will not stop a horse from wood chewing.
I would suggest that you look at the wire muzzle item # 05803. This works great to get horse to quit chewing fence posts or other items. It clips right to the halter.
