Comments about Dura-Tech® Padded Hock Wraps:

Bought these for my daughter's gelding. His hock got sores from laying down then getting up. Tricky to keep on, most mornings I would find them around his fetlocks! They take a little practice to get on right so they stay out.

Comments about Dura-Tech® Padded Hock Wraps:

These boots were a lifesaver! We used them to cover/bandage a terrible hock slice injury on our Thoroughbred Mare. Worked great as long as we wrapped some cohesive bandage around it as well, otherwise it slipped when she went outside and started stomping flies. Always stayed in place while she was in her stall though. They wash up very nicely and the padding on the inside meant we did not have to also place a pad over the wound, so it wound up being less bulky for our horse.

Comments about Dura-Tech® Padded Hock Wraps:

My one horse is prone to hock sores. No matter what I did , they would not go away. My friend told me about these padded hock wraps, and I tried them. I put these on every night for three weeks and my horses deep sores healed. If the sores start to come back a bit, I use the wrap. Good preventative. I do wash the wraps, and they last a decent time. I only wish the velcro lasted longer. Yes, I highly recommend these padded hock guards.

          • Q:

Can this be used to protect the horse from getting hock injuries when laying down? I have a thoroughbred who gets sores on her hocks every summer from lying on the hard ground, and I want to attempt to prevent them this year. How long can they be left on the horse?

Yes, they can be used for protecting the hocks and there is no time limit on use.

          • Q:

Has anyone tried to sweat a hock with this? How well do they stay in place? How well do they wash? My horse had hock surgery and now that his stitches are out and he's on the mend, we're looking for something a bit cheaper than $15 a day in cotton sheeting/vet wrap to protect the hock while he's on stall rest.

              A:

This is not intended to make the hock sweat. The 3 Velcro straps are strong and hold them in place very well. They should be hand-washed with a light detergent and then air dried to keep materials clean.
