Comments about StormShield® 1680D Big Fella Turnout - X-Midweight:

The horse that wears the BigFella is a tall warmblood with a deep neck. The blanket is a little short from neck to tail although I measured him carefully, but it gives him some relief from the neck and chest irritation that regular sized blankets give him. Schneiders sizing has changed over the past few years and lately it has been very difficult to find the right fit for this horse.

    Comments about StormShield® 1680D Big Fella Turnout - X-Midweight:

Love how they add extra depth to the blanket! I would buy my 17.2 Stocky Holsteiner a blanket that fit him in length but appeared kind of short on him so I am very happy with how well this blanket fits!

    • Too tight at withers and chest

Comments about StormShield® 1680D Big Fella Turnout Sheet:

The company claims that the shoulders are wider for the draft. I have always purchased a Rambo or Amigo 84-inch (non-draft) water proof sheet. I went with this brand because of the strength (1680 denier). The 84" draft size is way too tight, and he cannot move his shoulders, and it rubs on his withers, while on the last "hole" in the chest strap so it doesn't even completely close. If you look at the "sample horse," on the page, you can see the tightness at the wither area. The other problem is the leg straps are too low, and the straps are at his hock level. If he is running, there is a chance he can get his leg caught in the back straps. The 84" was purchase for a 16 hand, 1,600 lbs. draft.

How to Measure for a Horse Blanket:

How to Measure for a Horse Blanket
    • For best fit, stand horse squarely.
    • Measure from center of chest to edge of tail.
    • Take care to measure along the widest part of the shoulder and hindquarters.
    • The blanket measurement result is the blanket size.
    • If your measurement is in between sizes, round up to the next blanket size. Example: 73" = Size 74.
