Comments about Toughguy Tough Guy 1.5 Gallon Heavy Duty Waterer:

I purchased both the 1.5 and a larger size container (the larger size doesn't appear to be available any longer) I purchased them for the larger runs for my dog kennel so the dogs have ample water at all times. The 1.5 gallon gets used quicker so water is fresher, cooler, and there is less cleaning needed. The younger dogs can't destroy them (puppies chew on EVERYTHING). I have friends that also breed and take their dogs to AKC shows, they have also ordered the water bucket after seeing ours.
if or when the current ones ever start to fail, I'll be ordering replacements.

Comments about Toughguy Tough Guy 1.5 Gallon Heavy Duty Waterer:

I purchased this product on a horse website advertising this for horses.
When I received the 3 waterers, the outside of box shows pictures of a dog, cat, and a barn? Does not show intended use for horses? That said, we are using it for our 3 horses and it works just fine. It could be bigger, deeper, but ergonomics of it our great.

Comments about Toughguy Tough Guy 1.5 Gallon Heavy Duty Waterer:

I have tried all kinds of automatic waterers including some really expensive ones. I like these as well as any. My stallion was playing in his stall, reared up and came down putting a foot in the waterer. It broke, that was a good thing as he didn't get caught up in it and no injury when it broke. Other than a situation like that they hold up well. Some people say they leak. The water height adjustment can cause a leak and is an easy fix. I think the biggest leak cause is that the plug has a very loose threading to it and is easy to get cross threaded, thus it will leak. If it is tightened too much it will ruin the O-ring and this will also cause a leak. I have had these in my barn for 3 years now, no complaints. I even heat taped and used foam insulation on them. Then I cut the flat side off of a regular water bucket and screwed it to the rim of the waterer so the horses couldn't pull the insulation off. We have had temps down to 10 degrees and my waterers still work.

Comments about Toughguy Tough Guy 1.5 Gallon Heavy Duty Waterer:

The Best Thing is that the waterer does NOT rust.
My other brands rusted quickly. I can clean these waterers easily, just wipe them out!
The cost is affordable for any equine lover. I think I will order these for our arena.
We care and try to use what is best for the horses.

Comments about Toughguy Tough Guy 1.5 Gallon Heavy Duty Waterer:

My main complaint would be the water connection is on one side only. It would have been so much better if it was made to accept water from either side.

Simply connect to hose or 1/2" pipe and the float valve provides consistent fresh water. This item can be used as a fence or wall mount.

        • Q:

so 1.5 gallons of water is not enough for an average horse. Do you have to just keep filling it? how does it re-fill itself?
          Asked on 5/14/2015 by Janet

          1 answer

          • A:

There is a float inside of the trough that will allow the water to automatically start flowing when it is under a certain water level.
