      Comments about Ovation Protege Helmet:

Best helmet for a round head. The only improvement I would make is to lower the adjustable dial so I can put my pony tail above it.

        Comments about Ovation Protege Helmet:

I have always worn Ovation helmets because they fit the shape of my head. However, the Schooling helmet has changed size slightly--and the MD/LG doesn't adjust large enough to be comfortable unless I take out the liner. This Ovation has the XL option, which I purchased. Wore it to a schooling show and had it on a good portion of the morning. No headache or pressure spots. My new "go to" helmet!

          Comments about Ovation Protege Helmet:

Price point is very nice, however it is definitely made for more rounded heads. Has excess space on the sides, rocks, and puts too much pressure on my forehead and the back of my head when tightened to reduce rocking causing a headache to start.

If you have a more oval shaped head I would recommend a different helmet.

As a side note I did also chose the correct size for my head (small/medium) and at the dial's loosest setting front to back fit perfectly, but the excess space on the sides made it unsuitable and it failed the "shake" test.

Do you have a question about this product?

To properly size your helmet, measure the circumference of your head by placing the measuring tape roughly one inch above the eyebrow. Different helmet manufacturers have different sizing, so consult the size chart for the particular helmet that you are purchasing. Also consider how you will wear your hair in your helmet. If you are planning on wearing your hair up inside the helmet, allow room for this when choosing a size. When you receive the helmet, place it on your head without fastening the harness. If applicable, adjust the dial on the back of the helmet. Make sure the brim is resting no more than one inch above your eyebrows. Gently try to move the brim up and down. If your eyebrows move, your helmet fits correctly from front to back. Next, shake your head side to side, to the left and to the right. The helmet should remain in place. If either of these tests result in movement, you will want to drop down a size. If the helmet seems to be "perched" on top of your head, you will want to consider moving up a size.
