Tis’ the season of baking holiday treats for all to enjoy, even your horse! Your horse will love these two Holiday Horse Treat Recipes we’ve put together for you. The ingredients are inexpensive and quick to make; your horse will be “holly-jolly” over them! So, as you go to hang your stockings along the stalls with care, make sure you place a few homemade treats in them.
Peppermint Horse Bites
You'll Need:
- Mixing Bowl
- Baking Pan
- 1 Cup - Flour
- 1 Cup - Oats
- 1/3 Cup - Molasses
- 1 - Banana
- Peppermints
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350° (F)
- Combine flour, oats, and molasses in a mixing bowl
- Mash banana and combine into the bowl
- Roll out ping-pong-sized balls of the mixture and spread them evenly apart on your pan
- Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees
- When they come out of the oven and are still hot, press your peppermints into the treats
- Transfer them to a cooling rack to cool
Holiday Peppermint Horse Brownies
You'll Need:
- Mixing Bowl
- Brownie Pan
- 2 Cups - Flour
- 2 Cups - Oats
- 1 Cup - Molasses
- 1/2 Cup - Brown Sugar
- 1/2 Cup - Shredded Carrots
- Peppermints
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350° (F)
- Combine oats, and molasses in a mixing bowl
- Add flour, apple sauce, shredded carrots, and brown sugar to the same bowl
- Pour mixture into a small brownie pan
- Bake for 18-20 minutes at 350 degrees
- When they come out of the oven and are still hot, press your peppermints into the treats
- Transfer them to a cooling rack to cool
Note: If your horse is insulin resistant, substitute the ingredients with low sugar alternatives.
