Participating Rescues:
1. Dreamcatcher Horse Rescue
Founded in 2006 by the Wheatley family, and is family owned and run. Began with 2 horses- Sonny & Little Girl- and is now home to around 50 horses. Became a 501(c)3 in 2008 when the recession hit, and they saw a need for horse rescue. Rescued, rehabilitated, & re-homed 1000 horses over the years.
2. Redwings Horse Sanctuary
Redwings Horse Sanctuary began in May 1991 as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization in Carmel, California, with a mission to end the abuse, neglect, and slaughter of horses, ponies, donkeys, mules, and burros through rescue and foster care. In its first year, Redwings rescued 15 equines from abusive or life-threatening situations. Redwings staff then rehabilitated the equines and matched them with carefully-screened adoptive homes.
3. All About Equine Animal Rescue
AAE was founded in 2009 by a couple of individuals who were heartbroken to see large numbers of horses being neglected, abandoned, or sent to auction/slaughter due in part to the economic downturn experienced by much of the country and Northern California, in particular. Wanting to make a difference, they determined to do all they could with what resources they could muster. Since that day, over 260 horses have found their way through AAE's barn doors and are living healthy, happy, productive lives through.

6. Harmony New Beginnings Animal Rescue
HNBAR was founded in 2006 when a tragic accident took the life of a man who had several horses. His widow was not involved with the animals, so she didn't know what to do. When Joy learned of this she just knew in her heart that it was her calling to step in and help this woman and the animals that were left behind. The calls to help animals didn't stop after that, so on August 3, 2011 HNBAR became an official 501c3 Animal Rescue.
7. Second Chance Thoroughbred Rescue
Second Chance Thoroughbreds, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to retraining and re-homing retired thoroughbred racehorses. We are an all-volunteer organization located in scenic Spencer, New York whose thoroughbreds come both straight off the track and through local at-risk sales ads. Once at our facility, our horses are assessed and given downtime before starting a suitable retraining program to prepare them for a new career.
8. Horse Haven of Tennessee
Horse Haven of Tennessee, Inc. was formed in 1999 by Nina Margetson. She realized that there was no one acting on behalf of the neglected and abused equine in Tennessee. Even though she is no longer with the organization, we strive to continue and carry on the passion and dedication she had for this organization. Since its formation, HHT has cared for more than 1,200 horses and remains the largest nonprofit equine welfare organization serving the entire state of Tennessee.
9. Safe Harbor Sanctuary
Safe Harbor Equine and Livestock Sanctuary was formed by a group of concerned animal advocates in Middle Tennessee to fill a gaping void in the world of large animal rescue. While other equine specific rescues do exist, at the time of our inception there was not one single rescue that provided retirement and respite care to animals in need, while also working on rehabilitation, training and adoption to those that are able to have a full life in a new home. We are proud to be the first rescue of our kind in Tennessee, and that others have chosen to follow our lead. Safe Harbor’s mission extends beyond horses and includes all Equidae and Livestock animals that we have ability and capacity to aid.
10. West Virginia Horse Network
West Virginia Horse Network, INC. was founded in October 2014 to help ensure the welfare of horses in the Mountain State. The idea to start WVHN was sparked when the people who would soon make up the membership of West Virginia Horse Network, INC., rallied passionately around a senior horse in need. At WVHN we are committed to helping the horses that WE have the most to offer.

13. Turning for Home
PTHA’s Turning for Home, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that has provided over 3,000 former racehorses with a safe retirement. The program was created in May of 2008 through the foresight of the Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (PTHA), which revolutionized the model for racehorse retirement. Responding to the need for a better system that addressed the uncertain future for the retiring equine population at Parx Racing, the PTHA rallied horsemen to support the program which had established a viable funding mechanism supported by the racehorse Owners, Horsemen, and Track Management.
14. Indiana Horse Rescue
Indiana Horse Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated in its mission to facilitate the Rescue and Rehabilitation of equine in need. 15. Maryland Horse Rescue
Our founder’s first horse came from a badly abusive situation, but despite his horrible past, she taught him to become rideable. As years passed, she grew more and more disheartened as she watched people buy and sell horses like used appliances; it just didn’t seem right. The search for the “perfect” horse meant many horses were being “thrown away”. She found this tragic and it just seemed to her that someone needed to act as a safety “Net” for those horses, so “HorseNet” was born. In 2016 HorseNet Horse Rescue was rebranded as Maryland Horse Rescue.
16. This Old Horse
Founded in 2012, This Old Horse is a private, volunteer-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide support and sanctuary to retired, rescued, and recovering horses while they continue to serve as ambassadors to the positive effect of "horse power" in the lives of people. Our mission is to create a sanctuary for aged or unwanted horses who have served us well. We are a retirement refuge for horses who, alongside their human professionals, have worked hard for a living.
17. Arabian Horse Rescue & Education
Our rescue and rehabilitation program focuses on the whole horse. We address the nutritional, physical, and emotional well being of our horses. Each horse that we rescue receives individualized treatment, care, and training, so that its full potential can be realized. Our goal is to prepare our horses to be solid riding partners and if physically they are unable to be ridden, we prepare them for life as companion horses. To rescue and re-home Arabian horses at risk of shipping to slaughter, mentor youth, and educate the public on the sensitivity and versatility of the Arabian breed.
18. 1 Horse At A Time
1 Horse At A Time Draft Horse Rescue is driven by a single goal: to save unwanted, neglected and abused draft horses from going to slaughter! The rescue wants to do its part in making the world a better place for all, even if it can only be done 1 Horse At A Time. The rescue strives to build productive relationships and to make a positive impact with all of their pursuits. The organization actively seeks out draft horses at auctions that are at risk of being sent to slaughter. The rescue takes them home, nurtures them back to health, feeds them, gives them proper medical attention but most of all: loves them!!
19. Thoroughbred Retirement, Rehabilitation and Careers
TRRAC is dedicated to the dignified retirement of thoroughbred racehorses. Our mission is to offer rehabilitation and safe sanctuary where we can offer nutrition, medical care and eventually placement of into safe homes with approved adopters when the time is right. Our team is dedicated to keeping each horse safe from abuse, neglect and out of the slaughter pipeline and kill pens, while offering owners and trainers an option to retire their racehorses where they will be cared for without the threat of auction or slaughter. We also offer permanent sanctuary for elderly and special needs horses.
20. Impact Equine
Impact Equine was started in 2018, after many years of rescuing horse privately. We are a all breed recue that has a soft spot for thoroughbreds and draft horses. Our primary focus is horses in our community and we are available to assist local law enforcement, and owner surrenders, as well as go to different auctions in Michigan to help intercept horses at risk of being purchased by kill buyers. Impact Equine also works closely with the horse racing community to assist race horses transition off the track. Some with injuries that need rehabilitation. Our focus is to rehab, retrain, and rehome them for second careers off the track.
