Kimberwick bits are a special kind of horse bit using D-shaped rings plus a curb chain to increase leverage. It’s commonly used for English riding and driving, and can be used by younger riders who have trouble controlling a pony with an ordinary snaffle bit. These types of bits are also helpful when riding on a trail, outside of an arena or a ring. We offer a variety of FES bits with different leverage options. All models are made from stainless steel and include curb hooks and chain.

Uxeter and Uxeter Segunda Bits

FES’s Uxeter snaffle bit is designed for horses that lean or pull on a standard snaffle. It provides separate leverage options for different needs. The FES Uxeter double hinged roller Kimberwick bit creates downward pressure while promoting salivation, increasing sensitivity and allowing the horse to swallow. This model also has separate leverage options. It helps relax nervous horses and is good for horses that get easily bored. The Uxeter Segunda is a Kimberwick bit that encourages poll flexing while lightening the front end. It offers direct action in addition to leverage.

Copper Correction Bits and Twisted Wire Bits

The copper correction Kimberwick is a ported bit that keeps horses from pulling and leaning. It’s a good bit for working on suppleness and collection, with different leverage options. You can use direct action or put pressure on the mouth, poll and curb. The twisted wire Kimberwick sends a stronger signal to your horse, with more direct pressure applied to the tongue, bars and the corners of the mouth. This style also offers different leverage options.

Ported and Low Port Bits

For horses just daily schooling, there’s the low port Kimberwick bit, offering both direct action and pressure on mouth, curb and poll. Their low port correction bit keeps horses from putting too much pressure on the bit, applying pressure on bars and outer lips. It also rotates onto the horse’s tongue. Choose increased pressure on the tongue or increasing leverage. For more experienced horses, the ported barrel Kimberwick is a great choice. It works primarily off the bars of the horse’s mouth and lets them swallow. This one features a wide barrel port. As with other styles, there are individual leverage options.
