    This purchase was a mistake

Didn't work, deer flies got inside it and drove horses crazy. Had to remove and haven't used. A bad investment!

    These work well and last

Along with summer comes the bugs. We don't have a lot of mosquitoes around but we have gnats, flies, deerflies, horseflies and nasty biting flies that I can't name. I have a horse that develops granulomas in response to some bites so needs protection above and beyond sprays. I have a wardrobe of blankets but keep going back to this one. I have the bellyband version of this, as well, and do use it but the surcingle version seems to work fine and maybe provides a little more air circulation. My horse is smoky black so the light colored fly sheet might even help him stay cool when turned out.

Amazing but sad my mare ripped it so quickly!

My mare was getting large welts from bugs in our area and I just wanted to do something to help her. This definitely did the trick. After 2 days of wearing the blanket her welts went down and the only place she got more was where her mask and her neck cover met. It is very light weight so even though it was hot and muggy here, she stayed pretty cool in it. The only issue is she's rough on blankets so this only lasted 2 months before she got a rip in the hind quarter area. But it was 2 months of relief for her, and I will be trying to patch the rip because I love it so much!

How does the neck cover fit and do you think it would protect my horse's mane from rubbing?

    Alexis

The neck cover attaches to the sheet and fits loosely around the neck. The area over the mane is nylon lined to help protect the mane.

    Cheri

I have a quarter horse she is narrow in the front and larger in the back . I bought a mosquito mesh sheet with a belly band and I found her front legs caught in the belly ban and she luckily waited for me to get her out of it .. some how her feet and legs got into the sheet when she laid down .. I've been nervous to put one on her again . Do you think the no belly band and the v free shape would be better for her and the no closed front . She gets eaten alive by bugs they love her .

    Celia

I found the surcingle style is safer for horses built like her. I've used that style for 3 years without any problems. My horses wear them 24 hours in bug season. One has the matching hood and boots as she's super sensitive to bugs.

    cathy.soller

Fit is very important in optimizing your horse's comfort. The VTEK styles (#18472 or #38536) would be the best fit. This type fit has a smaller neck opening, more upright shoulder and starts about 4-6 inches in front of the wither. You should select the belly closure you are most comfortable with. The surcingle style is the most common fastening system used on blankets, sheets and turnouts. It's just a matter of personal preference. Our Customer Service staff is always happy to help with any questions regarding the fit of our sheets.

We use the open front feature on all turn outs for our Morgans. There are features on the sheet to make adjustments for a better fit. We do not allow the leg straps and surcingles to drape. We elected not to use the belly band fly sheets on the younger and more active horses. Fly sensitive horses have been happy with their Schneiders fly sheets.

    obriennelson

Yes. The adjustable front is better and it sounds like the belly band does not fit her properly. Try the surcingles instead. Also try the hood. We also use Absorbine Ultra Shield fly spray, the kind in the black container.

    seafilly1

I chose the V free fly sheet because it does not come up my mare's neck and rub off her mane.  I prefer not to use the bellyband styles because they seem to pull sideways on her.  The cross belly straps work fine.  She's in it all summer.

Is there a guarantee on this product?

    Stefanie Green

There are no warranties on the fly sheets.

    Anonymous

I don't know if there is a guarantee on the product. I can only say from experience that mine has held up beautifully on a mare that, sometimes literally, has fly sheets for lunch. It is either so comfortable she leaves it alone and/or it is tough enough to withstand her assaults. She is a dedicated roller and wears it just about 24/7. ###- Please type your reply above this line -### Can you answer Stefanie Green's question about this product? How does one wash this flysheet without it crinkling up? Or what can one do to fix it once it is crinkled?

    Rey's owner

It should be a cold water wash and hang dry. They could take a towel and lay over it with an iron on a light heat over the towel if they are concerned about the wrinkles. But, just wearing it again in warmer temperatures should allow it to relax and soften up again.

    Customer Service

My mare is allergic to gnats (no-see-um's)...is the mesh fine enough to keep them out?

    Legacy

This is very fine screen material. We have had good luck with customers being happy with this for that exact purpose.
