Great sheet for the $

4

Good fly sheet, tough enough for turn out, breathable so it doesn't make them overly hot.

Very happy with this fly sheet.

Fits my big QH well. True to size. Holding up well and he is a roller!

Seemed great, until...

Thought it was pretty nice and used it about 2 weeks until the seam tore open where belly band attached. I cannot tell if a horse grabbed him there or it was simply pressure due to rolling.

Full coverage fly armor!

When this sheet was on sale, I scooped it up immediately! I also nabbed the neck cover and face mask to complete the gear. My TB horse loves it. He absolutely hates flies, but he insists on 24/7 turnout, so he has to be covered. Our summer has been so hot and humid that only the lightest of fly sheets will do; they need to dry fast and not cause sweating. This rig fit the bill. My horse loves the belly coverage and the fact that even the huge B52 bomber flies can't bite him with this on. It's light, dries fast and isn't too hot. The tail flap is unlined, which is both a pro and con. Pro because his tail dries fast and he doesn't develop crud or flaky skin, which he is prone to. Con because when he swishes his tail the stiff mesh causes some hair breakage. It's not bad, and you could probably put a wrap over the top part of the tail if you're worried about it. The only real issue is that the leg straps loosen every day, so much so that he has stepped out of them (thankfully not injuring himself). This issue seems to happen with Schneider leg straps though, as I have blankets and sheets that have the same problem. I put duct tape on the metal feed through part and it does the trick. Overall, good buy for full body fly armor!

How long did this blanket last you? Does it hold up good? What is a good 24/7 turn out blanket other than the blue plaid one?

shelbyhigley

This sheet is nice and lightweight and breathable sheet for 24/7 turnout and tolerates light horseplay. We have sheets at varying levels of durability and sun protection. All are great for 24/7 protection.

Cheri

Did anyone have a problem with this sheet tearing? My horse is on turn out 24/7 and lives with two other horses. How long have you has this sheet. I just really want to make sure this sheet is going to last me.

shelbyhigley

This is a good sheet that tolerates light horseplay. This sheet is very breathable and allows great air circulation while protecting from biting insects. Depending on how hard your horse is on clothing, we have sheets of varying levels of durability and sun protection.

Cheri

Will this sheet help prevent a horse from bleaching out in the summer? Mane and coat?

Parkerrr

It will help but won't prevent bleaching. The sheet has a 65% UV rating and is much cooler for horses in the heat while providing relief from biting insects. The higher the UV rating, the tighter the weave, which blocks out harmful rays. We do have the Soft Interlock Mesh flysheets that have an 80% UV rating.

I've bought the $60 fly sheets and the $160 fly sheets. My problem is they all want to grab my horses hair and pull to the back, making the neck and shoulders tight. I pull off within a few days. My winter blankets have a nice lining that keeps the hair shiny and slick. Which one will keep coat shiny without the pulling?

Lisa

This fly sheet is a Euro fit that starts about 4-6" over the wither and has a smaller neck opening with a more upright shoulder. This smaller neck should prevent the sheet from sliding back. The fine mesh is soft, provides 65% UV protection and keeps horses cool. The shoulders are nylon lined to prevent rubs. The VTEK sheets extend even higher up over the wither and would be another outstanding fit choice. Once horses have their summer coats they are naturally slick and shiny.

Will this sheet keep a grey horse clean if they roll? Or is the mesh too wide? I need a lightweight sheet that I can use the night before shows; however I'm in Florida so I don't want anything too heavy. I am also considering the soft mesh sheet with the attached neck.

Lee

It's lightweight with a tight weave and with the belly band option would keep him clean except his neck. My horses stay super clean in them. I'm unsure if there is a neck attachment for this one- Sent from my iPhone

westvalleyshowhorses

Hi, The fly sheet does keep them cleaner. The horse will only need a light brushing. I am in Florida also so yes it's light weight. My only complaint is that for a horse who wears this 24/7 turn out it has already ripped down the center were it attaches to the band that runs down the center. If you're using only for the night before the show it would be fine. Fits great. Hope this helpsLinda Sent from my Galaxy Tab® S2

lindasherrill528

It will definitely help keep them cleaner. Being a mesh fabric there is always a chance of some dirt getting through but it will really help especially on a grey.

blockquote, div.yahoo_quoted { margin-left: 0 !important; border-left:1px #715FFA solid !important; padding-left:1ex !important; background-color:white !important; } I love this sheet! While the mesh looks like big squares it has small mess throughout. I also have the neck piece and my horse seems to stay pretty clean.  Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPhone

trish.hafely

Um I think it would 🤔😬 Even though its mesh, it has good coverage. My horse is a bay though so I'm not sure if dirt would show up on your grey BUT I haven't seen any dirt get through to my guy's coat while he's been wearing it. Sorry that I'm not able to be more helpful Sent from my iPhone

gfiore295

HiI'm in California and have both the fly sheet and the soft mesh sheet.  I would use the soft mesh sheet before a show.  It would definitely keep your horse cleaner than the fly sheet. The fly sheet is great but knowing horses they would find the one pile of poop to lay in before the show.

taimusic

Trying to gauge fit for my draft cross. Big fellas do not come small enough (need 80-82), but I have trouble with finding a good fit for the big draft shoulders. Rambo blankets fit perfectly. Weatherbeeta are too tight in the shoulders. Any idea how this compares to those brands? thank you!

Sasha

I have all three: Rambo, Weatherbeeta and Schneiders Rip-Stop. I have ordered an 82 in each instance and they have fit my guy just fine. He is a large morgan/QH. Hope this helps.

fransherwood

Hi Sasha,     I bought this fly sheet for my little Quarter horse mare. There is a lot of extra room in the the shoulder area on her, but she has a fairly standard chest, not too narrow. The only thing that may not work for your big guy is that the sheet maybe too short on the sides. On my mare it is a good length past her belly, but if your guy fills out the sheet more it may shorten the length on the sides and not offer enough protection, belly and legs.   I hope this helpful.  Lindsey  Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

Unfortunately, our Big Fella sheets start at size 84. You may want to try a size 82 as they fit the larger, muscular types well.

I like the soft interlock mesh for my gray mare. It keeps the flies off and she stays relatively clean in turn out. I am looking for a lighter alternative. Would you recommend this or the dura-mesh? Thank-you.

Karen Fischer, DVM

I have both.  The Dura-Tech Ripstop is definitely lighter than the soft interlock. I would use this one in warmer weather. I have already used the Ripstop and my mare did not sweat underneath.

taimusic

This is the lightest of the fly sheets and is a similar fit to your other sheet. The Dura-Mesh is much heavier so I would recommend this sheet instead.

Customer Service

Is it breathable, i.e., open weave? Does it stand up to bites from other horses?

Cody's mom

Yes it is but of the open weave fly it is probably the least durable. The mosquito mesh #17283 would be stronger towards biting horses.

Customer Service

are extensions available for the belly band? i have one and it is the right length, but the band doesn't quite reach around her round ribs. it fit another itchy one great though!

jamie

We do care bellyband extenders item number is 21238.
