This will be a transitional blanket for spring and fall. I have a mid weight of the same brand for winter

I would buy this turnout again.

    5

I have purchased five of these turnouts. The oldest are four years old. Even though they get a lot of use especially on the older horses there are virtually no tears in them. All straps and buckles are still attached and working like new. I wash the blankets each spring and reproof at the same time if needed. These are great, sturdy turnouts!

    Great Blanket

    5

This is a great lightweight blanket. I love to use it for the changing seasons when a turnout sheet isn't enough but a big blanket would be too much. And then when I put my horse who has a full winter coat in his stall, I use this blanket to keep him warm when it's really cold out. It fits great and was accurate to size, plus it has held up great for my horse who is turned out most of the time. I love Schneider blankets and will always buy from them.

    Great Blanket

This blanket is everything it was advertised to be. It is a heavyweight but is still soft and doesn't get stiff. It keeps my horse dry and warm in the worst winter conditions so I don't have to worry about him getting wet or cold in a blizzard. It fits great and it has held up great as my horse lives outside 24/7. I love SS Tack blankets and will always buy from them.

THIS IS THE PERFECT SHEET. The fit is awesome for my gelding, super easy on-and-off when I'm busy in the mornings. I will be buying the medium and heavyweight as well!

It was a great blanket for the first two years

    3

I used this as a rain sheet for my big gelding who certainly needs no extra layering. He is a QH warmblood cross and it fit his shoulder pretty well. It was not a great fit at the base of his neck, where it created a lot of restriction when he was grazing. I added elastic there to help with the problem. The sheet front buckles broke within the first few months as they do on all Schneiders blankets I have. Just the thumb nub breaks off the metal snap. They are still usable. After a few years of wear with proper washing once a year, the waterproofing no longer worked. Not the end of the world, I Tekwashed and waterproofed it just to find that it didn't take on this particular sheet, although it does fine on all my other sheets. I guess that for the money, 3 years isn't a bad run but it certainly doesn't get 5 stars.

We keep buying them because they're worth it!

    5

We really like the adjustable fit and durability. We have some blanket destroyers that so far are taking care of the Schneiders blankets. I believe the good fit keeps the blanket from slipping and therefore less likely to end up in the shred zone...will update!

We use it on our pony when it is less than 45 degrees or any cold rain. He's outside 24/7. Zero rips, tears, or pulls. Will be buying only these from now on!

After years of looking/trying blankets this one actually fits the bill (horse). She's a solid quarter horse with a massive front chest. Love 💕 this and bought the same for her in a heavy weight.

Hi, very confused as a new horse owner what to choose as far as a blanket! She's a smaller , narrow arab.. 69" will fit. I live in a milder climate but we do get temps from 32-50. Yesterday it was 40 & i went out and she was drenched & shivering. She won't use the shelter, so just trying to figure out what she needs. She doesn't have a super thick coat. Help! 🤗

    Julie

Hi Julie! Being that your mare is outside, you definitely want to select a turnout sheet or blanket, as they offer protection from the elements and will help keep her dry. Every horse is different in terms of how much fill they need on their blankets to keep them comfortable. Sheets offer no insulation, just protection from the elements, a lightweight or Tekno-Fleece would be 80g of fill, a midweight 220g of fill, and heavyweight would offer 440g of fill. Each blanket has a warmth guide if you scroll down to where you can see the reviews. If you click on it, it will display comfortable temperature ranges for each weight. Being that your horse is an Arab, a cutback style blanket would likely be a good fit or the contour collar as this are less fitted through the front. Our Customer Service team is always available to answer questions to help you find the best fit for your horse.

    Ashley

I bought this blanket years ago, along with a neck cover to match. I've never needed the neck cover, but I will this weekend! Could you please instruct me in the proper way to attach the neck cover to the blanket, and to adjust it to the horse? Also. I will need to adjust the blanket as my horse's conformation has changed. What is the proper way to wear the blanket around the shoulders and neck? Thank you, and my old gelding thanks you, too!

    Diane

The blanket you purchased was the old style that has 3 elastic straps to attach to the blanket. The shorter elastic straps attach to the d-rings on the shoulder and the longer strap attaches to the d-ring at the wither. The V-Free fit is for horses with a lower wither and the blanket should start mid wither. If your horse has pronounced withers, you may need to switch to the VTEK style, which extends over the wither and onto the mane, has a smaller neck opening to prevent the blanket from sliding back. We have since changed the attachment points of the neck covers, so the old neck covers are no longer compatible with the new blankets.

    Cheri

How many grams does this blanket weigh please

    Sonia

The overall weight of this blanket is about 9 lbs. The heavyweight blanket has 380 grams of insulation and the midweight has 220 grams of insulation.

    Cheri

do these run true to size?

    Deb

Yes they do. Several ways to adjust. My Quarter Horse had a BIG barrel chest and I can let the closure straps across r.the chest out enough for him to be able to graze comfortably without compromising coverage. Lindy

How heavy is the blanket (weight-wise)? I am concerned about my big, elderly Friesian gelding being able to get up with a heavy blanket on. Thank you!

    Janet

Sent from my iPhone I purchased it for my 24 yr old gelding. It's got a little weight to the blanket but nothing to hinder his ability to get around. Nice sheet with no fill so good for rainy or chilly nights.

    shanab68

Hi Janet, I bought the sheet and it is very lightweight. I got it for my mare to wear alone in the warmer rainy season and for layering. She seems very comfy when she wears it and it is waterproof and windproof.

    laur

Hi Janet, I bought one of these blankets for my coming 3 year old Appaloosa gelding. I got the 80" to allow for growth. I love the blanket. I don't know exactly how much it weights, but I would have to guess under 10 pounds. It is easy to throw over his back and stays put no matter how much running and playing he does. The only negative thing about it is the leg straps do not stay in place where I have them adjusted. They keep getting longer so I have to readjust them quite often. But, maybe you won't have that problem with your older horse. Good luck. Donna Barcomb

    wbarcomb

The blanket weights about 9 pounds.

    Customer Service

The blanket is used for my Appaloosa mare. She is 15 hands and weighs 1000 pounds. I love the blanket because it fits well ( and you have the ability to adjust it for a more custom fit for your horse). It is sturdy, but not too heavy to handle. It is a very nice looking blanket and gives my horse good coverage. It also has a detachable hood, which can be purchased separately, so it gives plenty of options. I have 6 horses and have purchased many different brands of blankets which have cost a lot more than the Storm Shield, but I have to admit my favorite is the Storm Shield. Sent from my iPad

Would this blanket work for narrow chested horses? My mare has narrow shoulders and most blankets rub or let water in.

    Laney

We would suggest the VTEK. The VTek will cover the shoulders better and come up higher so it should close the front end in more.

    Customer Service

They have the adjusters at the neck to adjust the fit. It fits our welsh/quarter cross 14.2 hands high wearing a 70" Sent from my iPhone

Depending on how narrow her chest is yes...there is the ability to snug it up with the Velcro adjustments at the neck/shoulders...I have both broad and narrow chested horses in this blanket...hope it helps... Sent from my iPad

I have found this blanket to fit many sized horses. You can adjust the front and how it fits with the v fit..hope this helps. Debbie

    dalt5940

I have a fairly narrow-chested QH and this blanket works awesome for her. The best part about Schneider's blankets is the adjusta-fit system where you can adjust the chest part. I chose the sheet because I strictly just wanted protection from the rain. My horse lives outside with just a roof over her head, she has always been dry underneath when I brought her in to ride. I live in rainy southern Oregon and we do occasionally get snow. Hope this helps. Sent from my iPhone
