Not as cold as other products I have tried

      Pros

      • Convenience
      • Coverage

      Cons

      • Does not cool enough
      • Gel packs too hard

      Best Uses

      • Reduce heat

Comments about Dura-Tech® Cooling Gel Leg & Hoof Wrap:

I liked the coverage of the wrap, as well as the ease of use. However, once frozen, the gel packs are quite hard and do not mold well to the leg. Therefore, the leg does not get as cold as with other cooling products I have tried.

      Pros

      • Wrap itself is well made

      Cons

      • The ice blocks do not form to leg! Poor contact!

      Best Uses

      • Not on a horse leg

Comments about Dura-Tech® Cooling Gel Leg & Hoof Wrap:

Used this on rear legs of horse after workout. The cold blocks are sharp edged and do not conform to the leg. Contact is poor. Better to use gel packs than this. Horse was very uncomfortable wearing these.

      Service and delivery comments:

Good service from Schneiders. Wish I had kept the package and receipt to make return. Guess I'll use them to cool my picnic basket.

Comments about Dura-Tech® Cooling Gel Leg & Hoof Wrap:

My horse foundered and I needed to ice her hooves all the time. She got tired of ice in buckets so I looked for something else. I was excited about these boots because they cover the hoof. Unfortunately, they don't stay cold and quickly become just "cool". I didn't feel any temperature change in my horses legs or hooves. Her legs were'nt even cool to the touch. I started rinsing them off with water and then placing in the freezer hoping they would stay cool longer to no avail.

would this help cool the foot and leg for heat from laminitis?

Yes, we soaked the foot in ice water, and put these iceboots up the legs, to keep the temp down enough in the hoof to reduce inflammation. I have read a lot about this on the internet, and the opinions are varied about whether icing the hooves really helps. Some vets think that for cryotherapy to be effective, the hoof has to be cooled down quite a lot, and for quite a long time to lesson the inflammation and pain that results from laminitis. I knew our horse would not tolerate ice up to the stifles/knees! So we used the combination of a soaking boot and these ice boots. This method worked well for us. Our horse is doing much better. Good luck!

              See below
              Sent from my iPad
My horse (12 yr old 16hand-ish gelding working training level dressage) has intermittent stocking in his hind, and sometimes front, ankles. No laminitis issue. Salt intake and diet are good and vet says there doesn't appear to be any concerning condition. I'm told some horses tend to stock due to heat, standing, etc) He performs well and gives no indication of discomfort. As a preventive measure to keep down inflammation and wear and tear from working, I purchased the cooling leg and hoof wraps for use after lessons/rides. I leave them on 10-15 minutes, depending on his tolerance. I also wet his legs first and place the wraps with a wet towel lining underneath, versus just placing the wraps directly on his legs. The wetness helps with the uniform cooling. When I remove the wraps and towels, his legs and ankles are cold to the touch. This procedure was approved by our vet and farrier. Hope this helps!

I would get the smaller size. These are
pretty long and I use them on the back
              legs.
