Trailering your Horse with Shipping Boots or Shipping Wraps
Horse shipping boots provide transport protection to a horse’s legs. The shipping boot is a horse boot that is made of a tough but breathable Denier outer-shell with a padded inside and held closed by hook-and-loop fasteners. Shipping boots usually start above the horse’s knee or hock and extend all the way down to the bottom of the hoof, providing full protection to the horse’s leg.
The hook-and-loop closures of a shipping boot are usually in three or four large tabs, making the boot easy to put on and take off. With their easy-on, easy-off design, shipping boots are very popular among riders who want to protect their horse’s legs while traveling.
Shipping wraps are similar to standing bandages, where a standing wrap and quilt or standing bandage is applied to the horse’s leg and snuggly fit, ready for transport. Shipping wraps can offer a bit more support than a shipping boot but take more time to put on and require more practice to get on without wrinkles or creases.
