Choosing a Western Spoon Bit

Spoon bits are advanced bits for training or showing Western horses. The spoon bit is made of a flatten ported mouthpiece which is gentler on the horse’s palate than most other high port bits.

As an advanced western bit, the spoon bit, only needs very light contact to cue the horse. The spoon bit is used in advanced horse movements in the western world.

Spoon bits made with sweet iron encourage the horse to salivate and soften into the bit. Sweet iron rusts and tastes sweet to the horse, hence its name.

Copper or copper roller mouthpieces in a spoon bit increases salivation and helps the horse to accept the bit.
