This control over the movement of your horse is most important in trainings and competition, which is why we offer Western bridles specifically designed for each of these applications. With supple, smooth leather, and heavy-duty hardware, both our show and training bridles feature a durable a design that’s comfortable for your horse.

Our exquisitely designed Western show headstalls and show bridles from Billy Royal®, Double S and Raleigh will get you and your horse noticed in the show ring. Available in many styles, these headstalls are made with premium quality leather, and most have engraved sterling silver or cast silver plate trim. They’re durable and highly functional while adding a sophisticated appearance.

A Western headstall from Billy Royal is extremely elegant, with handcrafted top-grade supple leather and hand-engraved sterling silver plate trim. The hand-tooled leather and attention to detail is a winning combination that creates a stunning appearance. We offer several styles, from the teardrop crystal two-ear headstall to the bling star and studs collection. Depending on the model, features include classic basket weave pattern design, silver stud embellishments with leather backed star conchos, durable stainless-steel hardware, flared cheek design with Chicago screw bit ends, buckles and other accessories set in crystal accents, rolled silver ear pieces and round buckle with rope edges and scroll engraving. Other designs include flat ferrule two-ear, butterfly two-ear, stars and crystal hexagon and gold scroll and blue stone.

Billy Royal western show headstalls are made with the highest quality, extremely supple grade A hand tooled leather. Although exact details and styling varies between models, all their headstalls include engraving and have 92.5 percent sterling silver plate trim. They have double side adjustments, and many are available in light or dark oil finish. Headstalls have matching trim on buckles, tips, keepers and Chicago screw heads at bit ends.

Depending on the style, these headstalls have features such as hand tooled popular patterns like classic oak and acorn, engraved rolled silver ear pieces, silver ball ferrules and buckles with rope edges and engraving. Other features of certain models include crystal embellishments, raised gold floral accents, diamond shaped buckles with set crystals on the edges, engraved silver O-rings, black leather inlay and engraved conchos.

A Double S headstall or Western show bridle uses hand crafted premium leather. Some models have hand engraved sterling silver plate trim, while others feature etched cast sliver trim. The cast silver displays luster but not the brilliant shine of sterling plate. It also requires minimal maintenance. Design features, depending on the model, include classic scroll design on tips, keepers, conchos and Chicago screws; ferrules in barrel patterns and double rows of ferrules with balls and barrels. There are styles with light or dark oil.

Raleigh produces classy entry level headstalls constructed from high-quality leather with hand-oiled finish and engraved sterling silver plate trim on buckles, ears, cheeks, keepers and tips. The silver trim of these economically priced headstalls also use the classic ball and barrel patterns.

If you or your horse is struggling with traditional Western bridles, a one-ear headstall may be the answer. Instead of a browband, these special bridles have a loop strap that goes around a horse’s ear to keep the bridle in place. This simple design is so easy to put on and take off and is a great choice for horse that are irritated by traditional browband bridles.

Western one-ear training headstalls, riding headstalls and work headstalls are available and are handcrafted from Grade A leather that is hand rubbed and oiled for an already broke in feel. Some headstalls are also hand-dipped in oil that gives them a longer lifespan and a gorgeous show-ready shine. The sliding ear loop allows trainers to adjust the position for horses with sensitive ears. If your horse is prone to shaking or tossing their head, you may want to get a one-ear headstall with throat latch that makes it more difficult for them to remove. Another option is a two-ear headstall that hooks over both ears for added security.

What is a Vaquero?: The traditional American cowboy of the late 1800s came out of the Mexican vaquero traditions. Vaquero are livestock herders, a tradition that originated in the Iberian Peninsula. They are still part of a Spanish tradition of horse-riding workers, brought to Mexico from Spain.

Mecates, Bosals, Hackamores: Superior quality 12 plait rawhide bosals are ideal for training or show. Nicely balanced to achieve necessary pressure to encourage flexing at the poll. Soft to the hand mecates form a perfect drape. A Hackamore headstall includes a noseband, of several different materials, a hanger or headstall and a mecate or reins. The bosal is a noseband, which is used along with the hanger, or headstall, which is placed over the horse’s head, behind its ears. The mecate is the reins. The bosal style hackamore is commonly used for training young horses. Traditionally, a mecate was made from horsehair, and is approximately 20 to 25 feet in length. You’ll also find the Billy Royal® bosal set with futurity headstall, with handcrafted Grade A leather and basket weave tooling. There’s Ultra® high-grade leather conditioner and bridle/halter bags for keeping your Billy Royal show headstalls in pristine condition.

For proper fitting of a bosal to your horse, you first measure from the inside of the horse’s nose button to the top of its heel knot. This will give you the right size, which will typically be between 10 and 12 inches. Shape the bosal and branches of the bosal to your horse for even pressure without any pinching or squeezing. Adjust the hanger for the proper position and tie the mecate, fine-tuning the hackamore adjustments as necessary.
