Western Spoon Bits for Eventing

Spoon bits are higher ports that lay a bit flatter between the tongue and palate. These bits are designed for more refined response in cues for western disciplines.

  • Ports are either 1 3/4" or 2" in height, all mouthpieces are 5"

This three piece, floating spoon bit is totally handmade, has a lifetime guarantee and is a great transition bit that introduces the horse to curb pressure with the shorter shank. The shorter 5 ½” teardrop cheek sends a slower signal from the rider’s hand to the horse’s mouth giving the horse advance warning and more time to react. The mouthpiece has a floating spoon with a copper wrapping in the center and applies pressure to the palate and bars of the mouth and is more forgiving than bits with a solid mouth. This bit is hand forged from blackened steel that will rust over time and produce a sweet taste and promote salivation.

Features include:

  • Three piece floating spoon port with copper wrapped center
  • Hand forged with a lifetime guarantee (no two bits are exactly alike)
  • Blackened steel will rust over time to produce a sweet taste and promote salivation
  • Shorter shank sends a slower signal to the horse’s mouth giving the horse time to react
  • Applies pressure to the palate and bars of the mouth with some tongue relief
  • Port height: 2 ½”
  • Cheeks: 5 ½”
  • Bar diameter: ½”

Western Spoon Bits for Eventing

Perform advanced maneuvers and routines for Western showmanship with the help of our equine spoon bits. These ported bits are designed for use on experienced, seasoned horses by experienced riders with lighter hands. The higher port allows tongue pressure while applying mild palate pressure. As such, the rider and horse can execute the more refined cues and responses that are needed for high-level showings. Schneiders has Western spoon bits from top brands such as Dutton, FES, Professional’s Choice® and Robart™ that are used by the nation’s top riders and trainers.

Every Western spoon bit we carry has a five-inch mouthpiece and either a medium (1.75-inch) or high (2-inch plus) port. A medium port spoon bit has a better balance between tongue and palate pressure in the mouth, whereas a high-port spoon bit has more tongue relief while emphasizing the bar and palate. We have floating spoon Western bits that are ideal for transitioning a horse to curb pressure, finishing level Loomis cheek spoon bits that quicken the response time on cues, spring-loaded correction spoon bits that can work either side of the mouth individually and other styles to meet your training or show needs.

These spoon bits for Western riding are made of beautiful materials such as stainless steel, aluminum and iron with rugged construction that, in some cases, has a lifetime guarantee. Many models have a copper inlay, a swept back port or are deliberately made to rust over time. Each of these features encourages a horse to salivate and be more accepting of the bit. When used as intended, our Western spoon bits are proven to allow cueing with the slightest motions or contact in the show ring. Shipping is free on qualifying orders with the best customer service from a family-owned business that is dedicated to professional and amateurs alike.
