Flash horse bridles are a type of dressage bridle with a crank or cavesson noseband that come with a flash component. A flash on a bridle goes around the horse's nose and under the bit to stabilize the bit in the horse's mouth and prevent them from evading your aid. This kind of bridle would be perfect for a horse that crosses its jaw, opens its mouth, or puts its tongue over the bit.

What does a flash on a bridle do?

A flash on bridles prevents the horse from evading the bit. The flash component essentially keeps the horse's mouth closed so they pay better attention to your aids.

Why does a horse need a flash noseband?

Not all horses need flash nosebands. Horses that open their mouth, cross their jaw, or put their tongue over their bit would benefit from a flash horse bridle.

Flash vs. figure 8 horse bridle?

Flash bridles are designed to keep the horse's mouth closed while riding. Figure 8 bridles also do this, but they are also designed to ease the horses ability to breathe. Flash bridles go over the horse's nostrils and this can restrict airflow. This is fine for riders who only do dressage, but advanced riders doing cross country or showjumping often need their horses to be able to fully expand their nostrils.
