"I have a few sets of these - the price is amazing for the quality. They stand up nicely. The OS would be big enough for a very large horse - I have an 18. 2 Percheron cross and they have some room to spare."
"We live in SoCal where it gets over 100 degrees in the summer. Fitted fly boots seem very hot and uncomfortable for the horses, especially if they have a lot of fleece trim. Plus they always seem to rub on the fetlocks as they start to sag with age. I love the Kensington bubble-style boots precisely because they are not fitted and provide a lot of airflow, but they seem to wear out very quickly in that they get much baggier in both the top and. bottom trim, so sometimes the entire boot actually slides off the bottom of the hoof even though the Velcro hasn't opened, which is definitely a safety hazard. There is also something strange about the way they close in that the soft binding trim does not line up with the Velcro, which seems like it will rub the horse. I was delighted when I saw that Schneiders started carrying several types of competing non-fitted fly boots. Since my horses are rough on gear and we also need something with as much airflow as possible for our climate, I decided to try ordering the ripstop mesh variety. I've had a set of 4 for a couple weeks now on one of my two mares, and so far, with daily use from 9a-6p, they seem to be doing great! They still seem to be standing upright well (not sagging), and the elasticated polarfleece-type trim seems to be a good fit in the Horse size--not too loose but not too tight on my 15. 2 QH mare with average-to-thicker size legs (normally wears a medium in front splint boots, large in rear). No signs of overheating/warmth in the legs with these on in 80+-degree temps so far, but we'll see once summer starts. All 4 boots are the same height, so on the front legs, they are *almost* too tall on this horse, but they do just barely fit without hitting the knee. So if your horse is shorter than 15. 2, you may want to size down. The height is great on this horse's hind legs, however. Although there does not seem to be any distinction between front and rear boots, the boots *are* sided, meaning that the left-side boots in front and rear are made so you can have the Velcro flaps facing the rear, and the right-side boots are made so those flaps can face the rear, as well, which is a thoughtful detail. The Horse size height and circumference also seems to fit my 16. 2 TB mare with longer but similar thickness of leg when I tried them on her, so I may get a set for her, as well! I also think the available variety of colors are cute, and it's nice that they match the ripstop fly sheets, as well. It will make it easy to tell each horse's fly gear apart if I order different colors for them. I will say that in these two weeks, I've seen some threads fraying and unraveling from the Velcro flaps, so I'm curious to see how long these will hold up in comparison to the Kensingtons, which typically last us about 5-7 months with daily usage from approx 9a-6p. As of right now, just due to the nice feel of the fabric and the neatly finished and even fleece trim, as well as because the fabric of these boots seems so airy and lightweight compared to the heavier, plasticky vinyl mesh of the Kensington boots, I think I prefer these Schneiders Ripstop Mesh boots!"
"I hope my mare likes these as much as I do. They go on easily. I like the elastic which snugs top and bottom to the leg. Manure unable to fall in. As they are new, I’ll wait to find how they hold up. So far they stay on place."
"My mare had all these off in approx 4 minutes. She can be a stinker in leaving things alone/on but had the shoofly ones on for a good while. I felt the bottom band might be a bit softer on her pastern and got these ones when we needed a new set. Unfortunately she figured out how to get these off almost immediately"
"I have a small draft horse, and nothing fits his feathered legs, expect for this style of fly boot. These are great boots because the materials used along with the design, allow them to stay up when other boots of this style will slip down. I love these boots!"
