Metalab® Pelham Short Lever Leather Bit - 5 1/4"

The 5 1/4" size is designed for large horses and is considered a standard large size. This measurement refers to the width of the mouthpiece, so it's best suited for horses with proportionally larger mouths. If you're unsure about sizing, we recommend measuring your horse's current bit or consulting with an experienced trainer, as proper fit is essential for comfort and communication.

Vegetable-tanned leather encourages relaxation and provides a softer, more comfortable feel against your horse's mouth compared to metal alone. This natural material also supports clearer communication between you and your horse, making it an excellent choice for refined training. The leather will develop a natural patina over time while maintaining its durability.

This is a Level 4 bit designed specifically for experienced riders who have developed independent hands and subtle communication skills. The short 4cm lever provides mild, refined leverage rather than strong pressure, so it requires knowledgeable handling to be effective. This bit is ideal for advanced training and performance, not for beginning or intermediate riders.

The short 4cm lever on this Metalab offers mild leverage and refined control, making it a more subtle choice than traditional pelhams with longer levers. This design reduces the intensity of the leverage effect, which means less pressure is applied for the same rein aid. It's perfect for experienced riders who want to communicate clearly without overwhelming their horse's mouth.

The bit features a vegetable-tanned leather mouthpiece paired with stainless steel construction for the shank and hardware. Stainless steel is highly durable and resistant to rust and corrosion, ensuring the bit maintains its quality for years with proper care. The leather mouthpiece is also long-lasting when cleaned and conditioned regularly.

Yes, this bit uses standard pelham hardware, so it will fit any bridle designed for a pelham bit and compatible with a 5 1/4" mouthpiece size. You'll want to ensure your bridle has pelham hooks or rings to accommodate the lever action. If you're transitioning from a different bit style, check that your current bridle is set up for a pelham configuration.
