EquiFit Essential BitTape

Most horse bits require approximately 6-12 inches of BitTape, though the exact amount can vary depending on your bit's style, size, and how you plan to use it. The tape is self-adhesive and can be cut to your preferred length, so you can adjust the amount based on your specific needs. One roll provides enough material for multiple applications across different bits.

BitTape is made from 85-95% methyl vinyl silicone (silicone rubber compound) with 5-15% proprietary additives, making it a soft, comfortable material for your horse's mouth. It's FDA compliant and not hazardous under OSHA or WHMIS criteria, ensuring it meets safety standards. The silicone material is gentle and creates a smooth surface that horses appreciate.

Yes—BitTape is excellent for bit repair and can give a chewed-up bit a longer life by creating a smooth, comfortable surface over minor damage. One customer used it to save their Happy Mouth bit that had slight chewing wear, preventing the need for replacement. It works by smoothing out imperfections and protecting the underlying bit material from further wear.

Start with a clean, dry bit, then cut your desired length and gently pre-stretch the tape before applying it from the front of the bit, overlapping about 50% onto itself as you wrap. Squeeze firmly to ensure proper adhesion, and store any unused portion in the included resealable plastic bag to keep out dirt, air, and moisture. When the tape shows signs of wear or begins to loosen, simply cut it off and re-wrap with fresh material.

BitTape serves multiple purposes: it prevents bit-pinching and creates a gentler feel for sensitive horses, acts as an alternative to traditional bit guards, and helps repair chewed or damaged bits by smoothing their surface. You can customize its use based on your horse's needs and the specific bit you're using. Its versatility makes it a valuable training aid for various applications.

Yes, you should check with your competitive organization(s) before using BitTape during competition, as rules regarding bit modifications vary by discipline and venue. While BitTape is designed as a discreet training aid, competition standards differ, so it's best to confirm eligibility with your specific organization first. For everyday training and schooling, it's a practical solution without restrictions.
