Built for the Wither a Standard Blanket Was Never Cut For
Patented V-Free® wither relief, two inches of Adjusta-Fit® neckline adjustment, and a full bellyband — shaped for the moderate to low withers and sloped shoulders of Quarter Horses, Arabians, and stock breeds. Waterproof 1200 denier ripstop polyester, backed by a 7 Year Guarantee.

Generic Blankets Were Never Made for Your Horse's Body
If your horse has sloped shoulders, moderate-to-low withers, or a broad stock-horse build, that scene may feel familiar. A standard turnout can look acceptable while your horse is standing square in the barn aisle, then change as your horse lowers their head, walks, rolls, or plays. The blanket may creep backward, open at the neckline, or place pressure around the withers and shoulders. You keep adjusting because the size appears correct, yet the shape still does not match your horse.
That mismatch affects more than the appearance of the blanket. You spend extra time checking the neckline, repositioning straps, and watching for rubbed hair instead of finishing morning chores. If the opening gaps, your horse may lose some of the coverage you expected from a winter turnout. If the shoulders bind, movement can look restricted. When the blanket rotates, hardware and straps no longer sit in their intended positions, giving you another reason to inspect everything before leaving the paddock.
Buying a larger size does not necessarily solve a shape problem, and adding tighter straps can create a different fit issue. The real challenge is finding a turnout designed around your horse's conformation—not asking your horse to fit a generic pattern that was never shaped for their shoulders, withers, and barrel.

By Morning, the Blanket Is Under the Tail. Again.
Many conventional turnouts rely on a fixed neck opening and a standard shoulder shape. On a Quarter Horse, Arabian, or similar build with moderate-to-low withers and sloped shoulders, that fixed opening may not provide the adjustment needed to balance the blanket. Tightening the front can pull fabric against the chest or shoulders. Leaving it looser may allow an opening at the neck. Crossed surcingles can secure a blanket beneath the barrel, but they do not reshape the neckline or add the continuous underbody coverage of a bellyband.
Then the cycle begins. You reposition the turnout before work, check it again after turnout, and keep an eye on the hair around the withers and shoulders. You may try a different size, only to trade a tight front for excess length or a deeper drop. When the blanket shifts, the tail area may no longer cover evenly, and the leg straps may sit differently than they did when fastened. Even when nothing is damaged, repeated adjustments consume time and make it harder to trust the fit during a long night of wind, rain, or snow.
The frustrating part is that another standard blanket can reproduce the same problem. A heavier fill does not correct the neckline, and a stronger outer fabric does not change the shoulder pattern. Until the turnout addresses your horse's actual conformation, you are still managing the fit instead of relying on it.
- ✗Blanket slips back and bunches under the tail overnight
- ✗Wither rubs that take all season to heal
- ✗Neck-entry gaps that let cold air and rain straight in
- ✗Replacing a poorly built blanket every single season

V-Free® Wither Relief + Bellyband + 7-Year Warranty — Built for Quarter Horse Conformation
Coverage continues underneath. The bellyband closure gives greater warmth and coverage than a pair of narrow surcingles, and detachable elastic leg straps help prevent the blanket from turning. The detachable tail cover closes with double hook and loop to act as a better wind and rain barrier at the hindquarters.
The shell is 1200 denier ripstop polyester over a nylon lining, with your choice of insulation. Extended gussets give the shoulder better movement, and the double snap front closure includes a hook and loop closure assist for easier handling on a cold morning.
For your horse, those pieces work as one fit system rather than a collection of straps. The V-Free® neckline handles wither placement, Adjusta-Fit® fine-tunes the opening, the bellyband adds continuous coverage underneath, and the leg straps hold position through turnout. These blankets were formerly known as the StormShield® V-Free® New Briton Bellyband Turnouts, and every one is backed by a 7 Year Guarantee. Trusted since 1948.
V-Free® Wither Relief
The patented V-Free® design sits back off moderate to low withers and leaves the mane uncovered, relieving the pressure and rubbing that a standard neck entry causes on sloped-shoulder breeds.
Bellyband Stays Put
Bellyband closure and detachable elastic leg straps help keep the blanket in place through rolling, cantering, and an active night in the field.
Waterproof 1200D Ripstop Shell
A waterproof 1200 denier ripstop polyester outer over a nylon lining, with your choice of insulation for the winter you actually get.
Adjusta-Fit® Neckline
Two full inches of neckline adjustment let you refine the opening for a young or narrow-chested horse, or any horse who falls between standard sizes.

What Riders Are Saying
"I love the durability of this blanket. I also love the belly band. I truly think that it is so much warmer in our South Dakota winters. I love the different shapes and sizes of blankets that Schneiders offers to fit every horse shape and size and their guide to get the correct fit."
"Durable and gets the job done."
"I love this blanket! This is my third one I have purchased. My horses have high arched necks and the cut back style fits very well, plus the side adjustments. Belly bands really help keep the blanket in place. The fabric is very substantial and holds up to wear and tear. My oldest horse's blanket is 4 years old and still in great condition. Highly recommend this blanket."
