JP Korsteel Stainless Steel Corkscrew Mouth Dee Ring Snaffle Bit

A corkscrew mouthpiece creates multiple pressure points along the bars of the horse's mouth, making it a stronger bit option than a standard smooth mouthpiece. This design is useful for horses that need clearer communication and stronger cues from the rider, while the curved shape still helps reduce the nutcracker action that can be uncomfortable for the horse.

A dee ring snaffle offers a middle ground between an eggbutt and full-cheek design. It prevents pinching at the corners of the mouth like an eggbutt does, but without the protruding arms of a full-cheek that can catch on the horse's face or cause injury. This makes it a safe, versatile choice for many horses and riding disciplines.

This bit works well for horses that need stronger communication or are less responsive to lighter bits, as the corkscrew mouthpiece creates more defined pressure points. It's also suitable for horses that benefit from the curved design, which reduces pressure on the tongue and bars while promoting relaxation and salivation during rides.

Stainless steel bits are durable and relatively low-maintenance compared to other materials. After each ride, rinse the bit with clean water to remove saliva and debris, then dry it thoroughly. Regular cleaning prevents buildup and keeps the bit in good condition for years of use.

Yes, the curved mouthpiece design helps alleviate pressure on the tongue and bars of the mouth, which can encourage relaxation and salivation in horses that are tense or resistant. The effective communication provided by the corkscrew pressure points allows riders to use lighter aids, making this bit a good choice for horses that respond better to clear, consistent signals.

Snaffle bits typically come in sizes ranging from 4.5 to 5.5 inches, measured across the mouthpiece. Your horse's age, breed, and mouth size determine the correct fit—younger horses and smaller breeds usually wear 4.5-inch bits, while most adult horses wear 5-inch bits, and larger breeds may need 5.5 inches. We recommend measuring your horse's mouth or consulting with your trainer to ensure a proper fit that allows about 1/4 inch of space on each side of the mouth.
