Schneiders® Semi-Weighted O Ring Twisted Copper Mouth Snaffle Bit

This bit features a 5" twisted copper mouth, which is a standard size for most adult horses. The O-rings measure 3 1/4" in diameter and allow for free lateral movement, making it suitable for horses that need clear directional cues without restriction.

Copper promotes salivation and encourages a soft, relaxed mouth, which helps horses accept the bit more readily. A horse with good salivation is generally more responsive and comfortable during riding, making communication between rider and horse clearer.

Yes, the anatomically curved mouthpiece is specifically designed to relieve tongue pressure, making it ideal for horses that are sensitive in this area. Despite the gentler design, the 3/8" diameter twisted wire still provides extra contact points for clearer control when you need it.

Semi-weighted means the bit weighs 0.75 lbs, which provides softer and quicker rein aids compared to a standard bit. Customers have found this weight particularly helpful for teaching horses to settle into a frame and develop better balance with subtle cues rather than aggressive handling.

The 3/8" diameter twisted wire creates additional contact points across the horse's mouth compared to a smooth mouthpiece. This design delivers clearer communication cues, giving riders more refined control without requiring stronger hand pressure.

Copper bits should be rinsed with water after each use to remove saliva and debris, and can be gently scrubbed with a soft brush if needed. Store it in a dry location to prevent oxidation, though natural patina on copper is normal and doesn't affect performance.
