FAQ – Schneiders® IceStride™ Compression Wraps
What is the IceStride™ Compression Wrap system?
IceStride™ Compression Wraps combine cold therapy, compression, vibration, and magnetic therapy in one portable boot. They're designed for horse owners who want top-tier recovery therapy both in the barn and on the go, whether treating an injury or supporting post-workout recovery. Each session can cool legs by up to 25°F in just 20 minutes.
What's included in the kit?
Each kit includes 1 pair of wraps, 2 sets of gel packs, a charger, and an insulated carry case. Having two sets of gel packs on hand means you're always ready to treat more than one horse, or run a second session while the first set refreezes.
How do I use the wraps?
1. Freeze Gel Packs: Place in the freezer for 24 hours prior to use (they'll stiffen, not freeze solid).
2. Wrap Application: Apply the gel packs around the leg like a support boot, wrap the outer boot snugly over the gel packs, and secure with the hook-and-loop closures.
3. Control Panel: Press the center button for power on/off. Use "+" to increase intensity and "−" to decrease. LED indicators show the active mode — red for compression only, blue for vibration only, and green for compression plus vibration.
4. Auto Shut-Off: The built-in battery shuts off automatically after 20 minutes.
What do the different therapy modes do?
The wraps offer three therapy modes so you can tailor the session to your horse's needs:
- Red (Compression only): Gentle, steady compression.
- Blue (Vibration only): Vibration to relax tissue and muscles.
- Green (Compression + Vibration): Combines both for maximum therapeutic effect.
When should I use cold compression therapy?
Recommended frequency and duration vary by situation:
| Situation |
Frequency |
Duration |
| Post Competition/Maintenance |
Once After Work |
20-30 min |
| Acute Injury (48–72 hrs) |
2-3 Times Daily |
15-20 min |
| Chronic Conditions (e.g. Arthritis) |
1-2 times daily as needed |
20 min |
What are the benefits of cold compression therapy with vibration?
Combining cold with compression and vibration offers several benefits:
- Reduces swelling and tissue inflammation, minimizing fluid accumulation and edema.
- Cold slows nerve response, reducing pain signals to the brain.
- Alleviates muscle spasms and discomfort from both acute and chronic injuries.
- Vibration relaxes tissues and muscles, increases oxygen-rich blood flow to the injured area, and speeds recovery.
- Helps break down scar tissue and reduce chronic stiffness or tension.
Ideal for tendon and ligament injuries, windpuffs, arthritis, soft tissue trauma, and bone bruises.
What is the purpose of the built-in magnets?
Each boot features four embedded static magnets rated at 2900 gauss, positioned in key recovery zones. They're designed to stimulate circulation and support natural healing, boosting the effectiveness of the cold compression therapy.
Can the wraps be used for heat therapy?
Yes. The gel packs can be warmed in the microwave to apply heat instead of cold. Microwave for 40 seconds, check the temperature by hand, and add 20-second intervals as needed until the desired temperature is reached.
How should I care for and store the gel packs when traveling?
Freeze gel packs for 24 hours before use and store them in the insulated zippered case. Packs will stay cold for up to 5 hours while in transit.
Are there instructions for use?
