Choosing the Best Trail Riding Accessories

Trail riding is meant to be a relaxing experience to get out of the arena and enjoy time spent with your horse in nature, but not being prepared can quickly turn an enjoyable day into a stressful situation. Having the right trail riding accessories from saddle bags to pack important items and gear to padded stirrups makes those long hours in the saddle a bit more comfortable. Some gear that you will find useful on a trail ride include:

  • Saddle Bags
  • Cantle Bags
  • Pommel Bags
  • Water Bottle Holders
  • Feed Bags
  • Step Stools

Horse trail riding accessories like saddle bags, cantle bags, pommel bags, and water bottle holders can make it easier to pack important items needed when trail riding. You can store your car keys, snacks and water, first aid kids, hoof picks, bug spray, and rain gear, with any type of saddle.

If you are planning an overnight or multi-day trail ride, packing horse feed bags can allow you to easily feed your horse their grain or supplements without having to pack bulky feed buckets. You can just slip the feed bags over your horse’s head like a halter, with their meal inside the bag. These work well if feeding in your trailer or on a picket line while camping.

There may be times when you have to dismount your horse and may not be in an area with a tree stump or safe object to climb on to remount. Some riders may have trouble mounting from the ground, or an unexpected injury may benefit from having a stool to make climbing up in the saddle easier. Using a folding step stool is a great option for any trail rider as they are lightweight, fold up, and have a long pull cord that makes it easy to pull the stool back up to you while in the saddle.
