The Ported Barrel Dee ring is a great bit for intermediate and finished horses. The barrel puts downward pressure on the tongue yet still offers relief when the horse bends at the poll. Hooks allow you to position the bridle and reins at the best position and keep them stabliled in that position. (Please see your individual breed's rules and regulations regarding bits with hooks.)

Comments about FES Ported Barrel Dee:

This is a great bit. It has attachments for your reins and curb chain so you can get good contact, but the hinged mouth piece and tongue relief make it a gentler bit. I use this on my gelding who hates the brake in a snaffle bit and needs a medium bit without shanks. Was so happy when I found this bit so I could try this style without the huge price tag. Highly recommended

Comments about FES Ported Barrel Dee:

one side of the bit swivles easier than the other side. other than that it's a decent bit and not too pricy. good if you want to test it out with out paying a high price. The pony doesn't love it but he's okay wit it, he's very picky about his bits and this is the only one he'll tolerate other than his kimberwick which he loves.

Comments about FES Ported Barrel Dee:

I had been looking for this bit for 7 months and am so happy I finally found it! My new Arabian I got in Jan. Has a slight mouth deformation inside his mouth plus a fleshy tongue so he came to me in bit the same as thisi but with shanks so I wanted to get him at least into a D ring. The joints at the barrel seem a little loose but I think they will be ok. I think they needed a separate hole for a curb chain, which should be use with this at least for some stability in the bit. Works great though, and my horse is moving beautifully in it, and I will by again.

I have used this bit for years and all my horses love it. It is very durable and the mouth piece offers just the right amount of tongue relief for my picky horses.

            What bits are made of...

If you have any questions about this product or a type of bit, please contact us at 1-800-365-1311 or service@sstack.com
            Stainless Steel

Bits are most commonly made of stainless steel. Stainless steel can be cleaned and polished repeatedly without damaging the finish. It is strong, durable, and flavorless and does not impact salivation. Some stainless steel mouths are inlaid with copper.

            Copper

Copper encourages salivation to increase the sensitivity of the horse’s mouth. It warms up quicker than stainless steel in cold weather.

            Sweet Iron

Sweet iron is cold-rolled steel. The material appears rusty after repeated use. This oxidation tastes sweet to the horse and increases salivation.

            Rubber

Rubber softens the action of the bit as it is softer than traditional metals. Rubber-covered bits are generally thicker than metal.

            Aluminum

Aluminum is lightweight and easy to maintain.

            Plastic

Plastic bits are softer than traditional metal bits and they are durable. Many plastic bits are scented or flavored.

            Nickel Silver

Nickel silver is a nickel alloy, also known as German silver. It encourages salivation for a more sensitive and supple mouth.
